The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs in Hanoi said it will allocate VND227 billion (about US$10 million) to buy gifts for people under the social welfare bracket for the coming Tet festive season.
Beneficiaries of social policies, retired state employees, the elderly, families on the poverty line, families having served for the nation’s fight for freedom, those displaying exemplary character, and those contributing to the development of the country’s capital city will receive Tet gifts.
In all, around 787,122 people will be given gifts during Tet Lunar New Year. Of the above amount, VND500,000 will be for Vietnamese heroic mothers, heroes of People's Army, wounded soldiers, seriously sick soldiers, and those who took part in revolutionary activities before 1945.
Leaders in Hanoi also plan to visit and present gifts to disabled soldiers, Agent Orange victims and homeless people who are living in houses under management of the City. Some 58 exemplary people living in such houses will receive gifts each worth from VND2,000,000-VND15,000,000.
