Bronze statue of President Ho Chi Minh inaugurated in Milan

The bronze statue of President Ho Chi Minh was inaugurated on Tuesday at a restaurant in Milan, Italy by Vietnamese Embassy and Milan Authorities.

The statue depicting President Ho Chi Minh sitting on a chair and reading newspaper was put inside the restaurant Antica Trattoria della Pesa (Ancient Scale) at 10 Pasubia street, where the President used to worked and meet with his friends and comrades in the International Communist.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the statue Vietnamese ambassador in Italy Dang Khanh Thoai expressed thanks to Italy-Vietnam Friendship Association, Milan Authorities and the owner of the restaurant for their help in the statue installation.

He said that the statue was a gift from the Vietnamese Government and was put in place on the occasion of the 101st anniversary of the beginning of Ho Chi Minh’s national salvation journey.

The installation in the restaurant has a historical meaningful because the President’s footprints was deeply sacred here during his finding way to save the nation and liberate the people, said the ambassador.

President of Italy-Vietnam Friendship Association in Milan Roberto Cocevari said that Milan city in particular and the whole Italy in general was honored to be a well-known location where Vietnamese national liberation hero Ho Chi Minh had lived and worked.

Italians have respected president Ho Chi Minh since a long time ago hence the installation of statue of Ho Chi Minh will make Italians’ love for Ho Chi Minh spread largely, he added.

Francessca Sassi the owner of the restaurant said that the name and relics related to President Ho Chi Minh in the restaurant were kept unchanged although Milan city had experienced many events. 

The restaurant has still preserved the table in a corner and the chair where the President used to meet his comrades, she said.

People coming here are those who love President Ho Chi Minh and most of them are members of the Italian Communist Party, she added.

Restaurant Antica Trattoria della Pesa is often visited by Vietnamese delegations and also a place for Italian and international friends to learn about President Ho Chi Minh.

On the occasion of the 100th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh in 1990 Milan Authorities installed a stone plaque to honor the President on the front wall of the restaurant.

The plaque writes: This house is a place where President Ho Chi Minh frequently came during his expatriating in 1930 for protecting his people’s freedom.
