This morning, August 14 the NCHMF issued weather information that the water level upstream in the Mekong River was rising. The water levels was expected to reach its peak of 3.7m at Tan Chau Station yesterday; in the Hau River at Chau Doc Station at 3.17m.
The center forecast up to August 20, the water level will reach its peak of 3.85m at Tan Chau Station; in the Hau River at Chau Doc Station at 3.25m. it warned the flooding may occur at lowland areas in the provinces of An Giang, Dong Thap and Long An.
This morning, in the Mekong city of Can Tho, high tides appeared on many streets alongside Hau River with floodwater level at 0.2 to 0.4m.
Every year, high tides appear in Can Tho City by the beginning of September however the rising tides was appearing as soon as expected therefore local people worried that serious floods could hit the city in the upcoming time.
