On the occasion of new academic year 2015-2016, 40 ethnic minority students were given items for studying and scholarships each worth VND500,000 (US$22.4)
The gifts and scholarships were sponsored by insurance company Prudential and education sector in the central highlands provinces of Kon Tum and Gia Lai.
In Kon Ray District, the organizers presented study items to pupils of primary school Kim Dong and Ka Pa Ko Long. Additionally, the program gave scholarships each worth VND500,000 to 40 needy pupils of Senior High School Nguyen Trai in Dak Doa District.
Also in charity related news, charity group Vong tay Nhan ai from Ho Chi Minh City City’s District 12 and Red Cross Society in Kon Tum Province visited and offered 1,140 gifts to disadvantaged children; disabled kids and orphans in the province’s Sponsor House and Vinh Son House and Dang Tran Con Primary. The group also arrived in Sao Mai house in Pleiku to give gifts to disabled and orphans.
The Orphans and Disabled People Sponsors' Association in the Mekong delta province of Dong Thap presented 50 wheelchairs each worth VND 2 million (US$89.6) and gifts to poor patients and physically disabled people in districts Tam Nong and Tan Hong. The wheelchairs and gifts were sponsored by a charity organization in the US. Through the association, 240 other gifts were given to victims of Agent Orange in towns and commune in Tam Nong District. These gifts are worth VND72 million (US$ 3,227).
Elsewhere in the central province of Quang Nam’s Thang Binh District, 20 physically disabled were happy to receive wheelchairs from the province’s charity association. the wheelchairs were sponsored by a charity organization in the US through the province’s association.
Meantime, the central province of Quang Ngai’s Youth Communist Union mobilized organizations, enterprises and benefactors to contribute money for building new houses for families in the top welfare brackets and families serving in the cause of the nation’s revolution to replace their dilapidated ones. 24 new houses were built and handed over to families.
In related charity news, district 11 in HCMC held a meeting to review 15 years implementing the campaign “For the poor” in the period 1001-2015. During 15 past years, the district has built 617charity new houses for poor households and families whose economic condition is close to poverty line; repairing 343 other houses; giving 4,962 Nguyen Huu Tho scholarships and 154 bicycles to needy students but excel in studying.
District administration also provided 305 scholarships for vocational training to poor laborers, soldiers who finished their military time in the arm. Moreover, 5,290 insurance cards were given to poor people; 19 private medical clinics provide free examination and drugs to the poor.
Total amount to take care of poor people in the district in 15 years is nearly VND31 billion (US$1,389,420)
