Chung Thi Kim Van’s family receives certificate of merit

The family of Chung Thi Kim Van received a certificate of merit and VND 20 million from President Truong Tan Sang on March 9 for the child’s heroic efforts in sacrificing herself to save a drowning child.

On behalf of President Truong Tan Sang, leaders of People’s Committee in the central province of Binh Thuan gave Van’s parents the award and gave condolences to the family in their loss.

President Sang expressed inspiration by the bravery of Kim Van and stated she was an exemplary Vietnamese child.

Kim Van was the oldest daughter of Chung Thanh Phuong and Doan Thi Cuc Vuong.

Tran Tien Dat, 5, fell into a waterhole near an irrigation site of Luong Son Town, Bac Binh District at 3 p.m. on March 2. Kim Van rushed to the scene and immediately jumped into the water upon hearing the cry for help. After saving the boy, Kim Van sank into the water due to exhaustion. Local authorities found her body floating in the water later that day.
