Concert Raises Money for the Poor for Tet Holidays

More than VND12 billion (US$74,000) raised from the concert themed “Spring for disadvantaged people” at the Phan Dinh Phung Sport House in HCM City yesterday will go the poor and Agent Orange (AO) victims.

Ms. Le Thi Yen, CEO of the Tan Phu Tho Company, won the right to buy a mouse made of gold encrusted with two diamond eyes and signed by President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Made by Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint-Stock Company, it was sold for VND8.2 billion (around US$50,000) at the  auction in the musical performance.

The show was organized by the HCMC Police Weekly Newspaper under the auspices of the Viet Nam Agent Orange Victims’ Association and Ngoc Tam charity fund.

The Fatherland Front Committee of HCMC also plans to spend VND1.439 billion (nearly US$90,000) on offering Tet [Lunar New Year] gifts to more than 4,000 disadvantaged households, families of revolutionary soldiers, the poor and ethnic group members.

The Committee has just sent VND100 million (over US$6,000) to support landslide victims in Nghe An Province’s Ban Ve power plant project.
