The ground-breaking ceremony on the Lo Te-Rach Soi Highway linking Can Tho and Kien Giang province in the Mekong Delta region was held on January 17 in the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

The 53.3km Lo Te-Rach Soi Road will run from Thot Not district in Can Tho to Kien Giang province’s Chau Thanh district. The two-lane route has a maximum speed of 100kph.
In the first phase, the project costs VND 6,690 billion (US$ 301 million) with VND 4,167 billion (US$ 200 million) which is provided by ODA loans from the Republic of Korea (RoK). Construction will last 30 months.
Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony, PM emphasized that the Lo Te-Rach Soi Highway plays a key role in the transport network of the Mekong Delta region, which has an important function in connecting the Mekong Delta region and Ho Chi Minh City and the southeast provinces.
The construction aims also promote the socio-economic development and contribute to strengthening regional security and defense, as well as increasing efficiency of the transnational route along the southern coastal corridor, linking with Cambodia and Thailand.
