Construction of tunnel through Ca Mountain Pass kicked off

The Construction of a tunnel through the Ca Mountain Pass in the south-central provinces of Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa was kicked off on December 28.

The 13.4km road project will include a 4.4km tunnel, 9km of road and bridges as extensions of the tunnel route, and Co Ma tunnel with 500 m under the Co Ma mountain pass.

The Ca Mountain Pass Tunnel will permit speed limits of up to 80 kilometers an hour on National Highway 1A.

The project is constructed under the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) and BT (Build-Transfer) method at a cost of VND15,603 billion (US$749 million).

The construction is expected to complete in 2016.
