Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung urged Danish investors to consider technology transfer and human resources development in Viet Nam at a business forum entitled "Building Viet Nam with Danish technology" held in Ha Noi on Sept. 12.
The deputy PM said Danish businesses should seriously consider investing in Viet Nam in the fields of production of new materials, new energy sources, hi-tech products, information technology, bio-technology, engineering manufacture, food processing, infrastructure development, and the production of goods for export.
He said businesses from both sides should regularly hold exchanges and discussions to solve minor problems, improve investment efficiency, increase import-export turnover, and thereby improve cooperation between Viet Nam and Denmark.
Addressing the forum, the Danish Deputy PM Bendt Bendtsen affirmed Denmark's support for Viet Nam's accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and its application for non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council.
At present, Denmark has about 60 businesses that have invested in 38 projects in Viet Nam. They have combined registered capital of US$194 million , ranking 25 among 74 foreign countries and territories investing in Viet Nam.
Denmark's trade investment in Viet Nam is expected to increase from US$200 million per year to US$1 billion per year in the future.
The Danish Government offers Viet Nam aid worth about US$50 million annually. But in 2006, the amount was increased to US$67 million. Denmark has continued its credit programme for the socio-economic development projects in Viet Nam.
Immediately after the opening ceremony of the forum, representatives from Denmark's Callenberg and Vinashin Electric of Viet Nam signed a cooperation agreement.
Under the agreement, Vinashin Electric will act as Callenberg's sales agent in northern Viet Nam
