Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has instructed the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to inspect an urban area project approved by the People’s Committee in the southern province of Dong Nai to fill up parts of Dong Nai River to make room for construction.
The ministry is ordered to work with the province People’s Committee, Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, Construction, and Transport to inspect the implementation of the project, assess its impacts and handle issues falling within their jurisdiction.
Any matter out of their competence must be reported to the Prime Minister by May.
The Dong Nai People’s Committee has permitted Toan Thinh Phat Company to fill up 7.7 hectares of the Dong Nai River for Pegasus Residence urban area project, which has a total area of over 8.4 hectares.
The case has continuously been published on the media and raised the public’s concern and experts’ objections recently.
Therefore, the company has sent the province a proposal to temporarily stop building.
