Dien Bien Province proposes for opening new air routes

The local authorities of the northern province of Dien Bien on July 13 have asked the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Administration of Viet Nam for approval to open new domestic and international routes.

Accordingly, new services from Dien Bien to Vinh, Hai Phong and Laos aim to meet rising demand for air travel.

However experts from the ministry said that Dien Bien Phu Airport has complex terrain and irregular atmospheric motion for night flights. Its runway is not suitable for large passenger jet, Airbus A320.

The province has currently Dien Bien-Hanoi route with two flights per week operated by Vietnam Airlines, using ATR72 aircraft.

Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang asked the Civil Aviation Administration of Viet Nam, Vietnam Airlines and other carriers to make surveys on opening new routes from Dien Bien and send reports to the ministry in August.
