Disciplinary action against two officials of National Park

Luong Ngoc Bich, secretary of the Party Committee in the central province of Quang Binh, on March 8 announced a decision to take strict disciplinary action against two senior officials of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.

The two officials will face disciplinary action for failing in their duty to manage and protect the forest from lumberjacks who chopped down three ancient and highly priced Sua trees in the National Park--a UNESCO world natural heritage site.  

Luu Minh Thanh, director of the National Park has been reprimanded and Nguyen Van Huyen, deputy director of the National Park has been dismissed from his post.

At the end of April 2012, lumberjacks had chopped down three ancient and priceless Sua trees in Hung Tri forest in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
