The Ministry of Transport has come up with a plan to dredge and widen waterways in all 13 Mekong Delta provinces so that large ships will be able to navigate their way through more of the watery region.

Also in the plan is a port in Can Tho with the capacity to accommodate ocean-going ships.

The projected cost of US$360 million includes US$197 million for dredging and widening the navigable channels of the Hau River, the Mekong’s main southern arm.
