The Electricity of Vietnam Group predicts that southern Vietnam will face a power shortage by 467 million kWh in September and October.
The State utility said that the water table was low in the northern provinces although it is peak flood season while water levels in the hydropower reservoirs had also fallen.
Moreover, gas supplies to EVN have not been very stable. Petro Vietnam plans to stop supplying gas from the Nam Con Son Gas Pipeline for 15 days from September 15 to September 30 and also stopping PM3 gas for the Power Plants in Ca Mau in the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau, for maintenance purposes. The halt in gas supplies will worsen the crisis.
