Expansion of Tan Son Nhat Airport needs over $1 billion

According to the Airport Design and Construction Consultancy One Member Company (ADCC), VND25,000 billion (over $1 billion) is needed to expand Tan Son Nhat Airport excluding site clearance cost.

At the meeting on October 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ministry of Transport and People’s Committee announced planning of the airport from now to 2020 with the vision to 2030.
ADCC said of VND25,000 billion; VND6,000 billion is used for building taxiway; VND7,600 billion for passenger terminal construction; and VND3,800 billion for cargo terminal and other items.
Deputy Transport Minister Le Dinh Tho said to meet travelling demand, related agencies and consulting companies have studied expansion planning for the airport and the Ministry will directly carry out this plan
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam was required to present types of investment and investment mobilization plan.
ADCC said that the airport is overloaded now; accordingly, expansion is needed. Specifically, in 2017, the airport welcomed 36 million visitors while its capability is designed to receive 25 million visitors. Once the airport is expanded, it is able to receive 50 million visitors a year and one million tons of commodities.
Deputy Minister Le Dinh Tho said the Ministry of Transport is trying to finish all work of Long Thanh Airport in October and will submit report of the airport’s first phase to the National Assembly in October, 2019.
The southern province of Dong Nai where Long Thanh Airport located is making report of site clearance of 5,000ha.
