Many dead fish went belly up on the canal from Ut Tich Street in Tan Binh District to Dang Van Ngu Street in Phu Nhuan District. Most of them are African carp with the weight of 0.5kg a fish and other small fish.
A representative from the HCMC Urban Environment Company Limited said that the company’s four boats collected 800kg of dead fish on the day, yet in the same afternoon, the canal still has seen a mass fish death.
The company representative explained fish died possibly due to waste washed from many sewage pipes during the heavy rain. Rains churned up the mud in the canal bottom causing oxygen concentration reduction.
