Fund to be Set up for Soldiers on Truong Sa

Mr. Nguyen Van Dua, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City’s Party Committee, led a delegation of officials from HCMC, the province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau and the Navy High Command to visit military personnel stationed on the Truong Sa archipelago.

The delegation brought with them some VND1.9 billion donated to the navy by companies in Ho Chi Minh City including Vmicro Semiconductor Corp., Hoa Lam - Kymco Motor Inc., the Tuoi Tre Newspaper and others. Musical instruments, books and CDs as well as sports equipment were also donated by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union.

As a result of the visit, HCMC’s leaders have also charged the HCMC Fatherland Front with setting up a fund for military personnel stationed on the island to be called “For beloved Truong Sa”. The Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union will also organize events in an attempt to raise VND3 billion this year and in 2008 for soldiers stationed there.

The city’s Youth Union will also cooperate with the Navy High Command to hold vocational training courses and create jobs for soldiers when they return from military service on the archipelago.
