Gov’t asked to support affordable housing for low-income groups

The Ministry of Construction intends to petition the government to exempt various kinds of taxes for low-income earners who are in desperate need of housing and cannot afford to buy one because of high prices and taxes.

Construction companies want the government to exempt various kinds of taxes for low-income earners who are in desperate need of housing

Ministry inspectors on October 4 convened a meeting with three enterprises in Hanoi, namely, Vinaconex Xuan Mai, Handico and Viglacera, who are building many condominium apartments for low-income people.

According to these enterprises, prices of houses for such groups are still high and beyond their reach. The reason is that government preferential policies on tariffs and loans are not reasonable.

Currently, enterprises have just received land tax exemption. They say that if they can get loans at low interest rates or zero percent, prices of low income houses will fall by 15 percent.

Construction inspectors have therefore proposed to the ministry to petition the government for a credit policy for housing projects for low-income earners.
