Gov’t sends 2,500 tons of rice as relief for upcoming Tet holiday

At the press brief this morning, the General Department of State Reserve under the Ministry of Finance said the government has approved 2,500 tons of rice as relief to three provinces on approaching Tet holiday ( the Lunar New Year)

The provision of tons of rice is for supporting needy people in localities nationwide who suffer natural disaster and helping destitute students in disadvantaged localities as per the government’s decree No. 116/2016, said Vice Director of the General Department of State Reserve Le Van Thoi
Mr. Thoi said that the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai, the central province of Nghe An and the south-central province of Ninh Thuan have sent requests for rice relief aid for the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
Specifically, Yen Bai asked for 380 tons for 25,354 inhabitants, Nghe An Province requested 1,264 tons for 84,324 people and Ninh Thuan Province suggested 979 tons for 53,152 people.
Statistically, fifteen to sixteen provinces have sent their request of rice relief aid on Tet holidays and between-crop period. Total rice relief aid is approximately 11,500-12,000 tons for one million people.
