Gov’t to inspect charity centers

Following a recent scandal of beating HIV-positive kids daily during meals in the Kindergarten Department of the Linh Xuan HIV/AIDS Care and Support Center in Thu Duc District in Ho Chi Minh City, the city People’s Committee asked the director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs to inspect state and private children care and support centers.

The Linh Xuan HIV/AIDS Care and Support Center belongs to the Department of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs. Accordingly, the department director must confirm responsibility of management board of the center and issue harsh penalties to individuals involving in the case as per the regulation.

Moreover, the director should encourage children’s spirit and provide good taking care to children there.

Along with inspection at charity children raising centers, the Department of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs’ director must liaise with directors of centers to increase supervision in order to eliminate mal-treatment and abuse. In a bid to curb violence in these centers, cameras will be installed to supervise activities and taking care of children

Staffs in these centers will be checked. Only trained staffs that love children are chosen to take care of kids. Related agencies must provide regular training and skills to staffs in these centers.

Before, in April 7, inspectors from the Department of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs’ paid a visit to Linh Xuan Center to provide information of the law of taking care of children and investigate the case. Nguyen Thi Kim Lien, center director, was suspended from work from April 7 to 21 to write letter acknowledging her irresponsibility which resulted in maltreatment on children in a long time.
