Hanoi now has 1,579 old apartment blocks. Of these, downgraded and damaged ones have the total area of 1.7 million square meters.
Since 2007, Hanoi has inspected and reviewed old apartment blocks and determined two phases of rebuilding and upgrading, from 2007-2013 and after 2014.
Currently four apartment blocks belong to extremely dangerous group which is likely to collapse any time. However it has been unable to remove residents because of difficulties in compensation policies.
