Hanoi, Vientiane celebrate 50 years of Vietnam, Laos relations

A ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos, and the 35th anniversary of the signing of the Friendship Treaty between the two countries was held in Hanoi on July 18.

Leaders who attended the event included Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu; State President Truong Tan Sang; Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung; former National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An; and Vice President Bounnhang Vorachit; permanent member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party;and Mr. Phankham Viphavanh, politburo member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and Minister of Education and Sports.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that it was an important historical event for both the countries. People of both countries have continuously maintained, strengthened and promoted a special solidarity relationship and comprehensive cooperation between their nations. The long-term traditional relationship has become an invaluable treasure for future generations.

The alliance, strong attachment, mutual trust and confidence between the two nations for more than 50 years has fostered this special traditional relationship. Laos’ Party, State and People are proud of the relationship that has incessantly developed in spite of international and regional complications and volatile situations, said Laos’ Vice President Bounnhang Vorachit.

On the same day, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung had a friendly meeting with Vice President Bounnhang Vorachit who is also Politburo member and permanent member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party.

In addition, a meeting marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos, and the 35th anniversary of the signing of the Friendship Treaty was held at the Vientiane Capital on July 18.

General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolution Party Standing Committee and President Chummaly Sayasone, Politburo member and Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong, National Assembly President Pany Yathotou; and Vietnamese Politburo member and permanent member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) Secretariat, Le Hong Anh joined the event.

Mr. Le Hong Anh led a high-ranking CPV and State delegation to visit Laos to attend the activities.

General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolution Party Standing Committee and President Chummaly Sayasone stressed that the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos, and the 35th anniversary of the signing of the Friendship Treaty have reflected a fast and durable traditional attachment. During the long history, the two countries always stood side-by-side, loved and believed each other. Despite of international and regional complicated and volatile situations, the Vietnam-Laos traditional relations have been nurtured, strengthened and unceasingly developed with effectiveness.

Mr. Le Hong Anh expressed his thanks for the strong support of the Laotian Party, State and People for Vietnam’s revolutionary cause. He also congratulated the achievements of Laos in national development.

On the occasion, Mr. Anh presented Gold Star Order to Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong and National Assembly Chairwoman Pany Yathotou; and the Ho Chi Minh Order and first-class Independence Order to those who have made outstanding contributions to consolidating and strengthening the Vietnam-Laos relationship.
