HCMC Calls for Investment in Subway

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and Urban Public Works is calling for investment in subway, streetcar and monorail lines. Foreign investors have already signed Memoranda of Understanding for four subways in HCMC but two more will be required.

A Portland streetcar

The first subway line, 17 km long, would start at the Sai Gon Bridge in Binh Thanh District and wind up at the Can Giuoc Bus Station in District 8. The other, 6 km long, would follow the Ba Queo - Phu Lam route.

35 kilometers of streetcar or monorail lines are also being planned and include one following the Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard to the Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone route as well as one connecting the Quang Trung Software Park with Nguyen Oanh street in Go Vap district.

The funds required for the projects are expected to be about US$40 million per km for subway lines, US$ 20 million for streetcars and US$7 million for monorails.
