HCMC leaders pay Christmas visit to clerics

HCM City (VNA) - Three delegations of Ho Chi Minh City on Dec. 20 paid visits to senior Christian and Protestant clerics on the threshold of Christmas Day.

The first delegation, led by Le Thanh Hai, Politburo member of the Communist Party of Vietnam and municipal Party Committee Secretary, called on at Arch-Bishop Pham Minh Man, his clerics and parishioners at the HCM City Catholic Church.

The municipal Party leader wished the Arch-Bishop the best of health so that he could further encourage municipal Catholics to made greater contributions to the development and prosperity of the southern economic hub and the entire as a whole.

Arch-Bishop Man replied by extending expectations for the city’s further achievements in order to constantly improve living conditions of the municipal population, including Catholics.

HCM City People’s Committee Chairman Le Hoang Quan was leading another delegation to visit the municipal Committee for Solidarity of the Catholics.

Mr. Quan, who is also a Party Central Committee member, extended Merry Christmas and Happy New Year wishes to clerics, priests and Catholics in the city.

“I believe that the entire municipal Catholic community would continue living the gospel amidst the nation”, said the municipal mayor.

His wishes were echoed by Bishop Nguyen Cong Danh, President of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics of both Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City . The bishop said the entire Catholic community would always actively contribute to the national unity.

On a visit to the Evangelical Church of Southern Vietnam League, the Permanent Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Van Dua, told the League Head, Pastor Thai Phuoc Truong, that the city leadership appreciated charitable activities by religious sects, including the Protestant church.

He said he wished that the Protestant community would further contribute to the municipal and national development.

These delegations included representatives from the municipal People’s Council and municipal Fatherland Front Committee.
