A survey of pharmacies showed that prices of 65 domestic medicines had increased, some as much as 40 per cent, such as Trafedin, used in treatment of cardiovascular diseases; Osla-eyewash; and many health tonics.
In addition, prices of many kinds of foreign medicines also increased in April such as antibiotic Augmentin 500mg which increased by VND15,000 per pack to retail at VND175,000, and Stugerol, which increased by VND45,000 per pack.
Compared to February, prices of domestic medicines have increased sharply.
In February, as many as 23 domestic medicines increased their price.
Many drug companies said that prices of domestically produced drugs would fluctuate depending on input and fuel costs, while imported medicines would be subject to import prices.
However, the Vietnam Pharmaceutical Companies Association conducted a survey in April of 40 raw products needed to manufacture medicines and found that they had only increased by 5.5 per cent. Therefore, it seems many companies may have hiked medicine prices on their own.
