Gale force winds and rough seas are forecast for Viet Nam’s south a few days from now so Ho Chi Minh City’s flood protection committee has ordered that emergency supplies be delivered to the city’s flood-prone areas and other appropriate measures taken.

Already four ships and seven canal boats are deployed at the two wharves in the coastal district of Can Gio for rescue work, particularly to help fishing boats in trouble, and storm shelters for small craft are being built as a matter of urgency.

Border guards and emergency crews have been given responsibility for maintaining ship-to-shore communications and checking that every fishing boat is seaworthy before sailing.
