Houses of gratitude to be built in Long An

20 houses of gratitude, worth VND30 million (US$1,400) each, will be built for war veterans and former youth volunteers who fought in Truong Son range and at present living in appalling conditions in the Mekong Delta province of Long An.

Through a program initiated by Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper of Nghia tinh Truong Son (Sentimental attachment for Truong Son Road), the province branch of the Bank for Foreign Trade in Vietnam gave VND600 million (US$9,500) to the provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs on February 17.

On behalf of the provincial authorities, the department’s director Nguyen Van Xe, expressed his gratitude when receiving the money, to the organization board of SGGP newspaper and to the bank.

The money was given on the occasion of the ground breaking ceremony for building the house of gratitude for veteran Nguyen Thi Phuoc in Vinh Hung District. The event was attended by the provincial authorities, representatives from the newspaper and the bank.

On the same day, a delegation from the Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper visited Vietnamese heroic mother Tran Thi Viet in the Tuyen Binh Tay commune of the district, to pay homage to her seven children who had became martyrs.
