At 9pm on April 12, a blazing inferno destroyed thousands of square meters of a warehouse belonging to Sacombank in Song Than Industrial Zone in the southern province of Binh Duong.
Colonel Tran Dinh Nhon, head of the Police Firefighting Department in the province, said the blaze spread rapidly across the warehouse through inflammable containers of paint, chemicals, fertilizer and other such material.
Flames leapt up as high as 50m and quickly spread to adjacent warehouses and factories in the area.
Tens of fire trucks and hundreds of firefighters from Binh Duong Province were mobilized together with other firefighting teams from neighboring Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province, but all efforts could not contain the fire from spreading.
Firefighters then used a turntable ladder and water cannons to douse the rising flames. By 11pm, the fire was still raging over a wide area. All entrance gates leading to the Industrial Zone were blocked, allowing access to only firefighting efforts.
The Sacombank warehouse area covers tens of hectares in Song Than Industrial Zone and is let out to tens of companies and factories.
