The Japanese government is cooperating with Japan’s NTT and Hitachi to help Southeast Asian countries, including Viet Nam, improve their fiber optical cable networks.
According to Japan’s assessment, since more and more Japanese firms are moving into the country, Viet Nam’s high-speed communication system should be upgraded as soon as possible.
At present, Viet Nam’s communication system relies mostly on slow land lines for telephones, so Japan’s government has chosen Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City as the first areas in Southeast Asia to receive the support.
Japan will provide financial assistance for their companies to improve Viet Nam’s fiber optic cable network, as well as export modern communication equipment to the country.
The financial assistance will be included in Japan's official development assistance for the 2008 fiscal year.
