Leaf Diseases under Control So Far

Leaf diseases in paddy fields caused by brown plant hopper Nilaparvata lugens in the Mekong Delta provinces are under control by now, said an official from the steering board on disease prevention on Monday.

About 90% of paddy fields in the Mekong Delta have gotten rid of these insects. Localities are busy spraying pesticides on the remaining 15,000 severely-affected hectares.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has reminded local authorities and residents to keep a close watch on the diseases in the winter-spring crop.

They are advised to install light traps and watch the trapped insects closely in order to effectively prevent another outbreak of the epidemic.
