Making Vietnam- Cambodia border peaceful, friendly, stable and developed

The 10th conference on cooperation and development for border provinces of Vietnam and Cambodia took place in Ho Chi Minh City on January 10.

Attending in the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Pham Binh Minh, Deputy Prime Minister cum Interior Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Sar Kheng, senior leaders of ministries, departments and border localities of Vietnam and Cambodia. 

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh affirmed that the event aimed to exchange and seek new cooperation opportunities, contribute to development in border areas, reinforce traditional friendly and comprehensive relations between the two nations. 

Vietnam - Laos border line is around 1,137 kilometers length, therefore, cooperation between the border provinces has always attracted special attention of the two countries’ leaders.

The authorities and people of the border provinces often hold high- ranking meetings, maintains cooperation and assistance each other in economy, infrastructure, health, education and social security development.

Border trade cooperation between the two sides has been growing, including negotiations of the Border Trade Agreement waiting for approval, building border markets and upgrading the pairs of border gates, gradually improving administrative procedures and shortening time for customs clearance. 

At the opening ceremony, Interior Minister of Cambodia Sar Kheng expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation results in the past two years since the ninth conference on cooperation and development in border provinces of Vietnam and Cambodia in Phnom Penh. He appreciated efforts of the authorities and functional forces of the two countries’ border provinces in implementing cooperation contents proposed after the conference. 

Cambodian Interior Minister Sar Kheng said that the good relations between Vietnam and Cambodia has maintained, tightened and further through mutual visits of the two nations’ leaders, cooperation between ministries and departments.

In the upcoming time, the authorities of border provinces of the two countries would continue to maintain order and security, prevent transnational crimes, exchange trade, control environmental protection and strengthen cooperation in transport, education, health and energy that contribute to preserve peace and stability. 

The conference issued the joint statement with 17 points that plans measures to build the border line between Vietnam and Cambodia as a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development in order to meet the expectation of the two nations’ people, deserve the sacrifices of the previous generations.
