They were also the choice of the Vietnamese people, after decades of searching for a suitable way for national liberation. They were the results of consecutive revolutionary campaigns over 15 years since the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).
State President Nguyen Minh Triet stated this in his speech at a grand meeting to mark the 65th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day in Hanoi, on September 1.
Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and the President of the Fatherland Front’s Central Committee Huynh Dam were amongst those who attended the meeting.
The national renovation process initiated and led by the CPV ever since the sixth Party Congress in 1986, has met the country’s requirements, said President Triet.
The great achievements the country has made since its founding have proved the maturity of the Party, the State and the people, said the President.
“We are proud of our glorious Party, the vanguard of the working class, the people and the whole nation, which was founded and coached by President Ho Chi Minh, has led Vietnam’s revolutionary cause to overcome every hurdle and danger to become victorious,” said the State leader.
Pointing out the advantages and challenges to the country’s renovation process in the years to come, President Triet urged the whole nation to build a socialist law-governed State to meet the demands for national industrialization and urbanization.
The country needs to step up administrative and legal reforms thoroughly and comprehensively and build up a strong Party and a State of the people, by the people and for the people, he said.
In the context of the complex regional and international situation, we should keep to the path of the August Revolution, protecting the country’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and the Party, State, people and socialism, he said.
Continuing to consolidate national defense and security is the primary duty of the Party, State, armed forces and the whole nation, he stressed.
On behalf of the Party and the State’s leaders, President Triet called on the people, soldiers and overseas community to join in efforts to take advantage of future opportunities and overcome every difficulty to boost national renovation and reach the country’s set targets.
81-year-old revolutionary veteran Nguyen Thi Hoai from Hanoi’s Tu Liem district highlighted the nation’s glorious tradition and pledged to continue to educate her children and to encourage people to build a beautiful and civilized country.
A representative of the young generation, Party member Nguyen Phuong Thao, promised to try her best to work for the goal of a wealthy people, strong country and a fair, democratic and civilized society.
On the occasion, leaders from the Party, State, National Assembly and the Fatherland Front’s Central Committee laid a wreath and paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum.
The delegation, led by Party chief Nong Duc Manh, then laid a wreath at the monument to Fallen Soldiers.
Later the same day, delegations from the Ministries of National Defense, Public Security, Foreign Affairs, Hanoi’s Party Committee and the municipal Fatherland Front also paid tribute at Uncle Ho’s Mausoleum and laid a wreath at the monument to Fallen Soldiers.
