Mekong Delta farmers have succeeded in one new cross-bred rice seed B-TE1 after three production practices, said Director of An Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on Monday.

The B-TE1 is assured to bring high yield of 8 to 9 tons per hectare averagely, around 3 tons higher than other seeds.

In addition, the B-TE1, believed to be anti-insect, can be grown in alkaline soil, which is not favorable for farming.

In the Mekong Delta provinces of Tien Giang, Long An, Can Tho, Soc Trang, some farmers are reportedly expanding the new rice production.

The B-TE1 will improve the prospect for the Mekong Delta export of rice in the near future.
