Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and permanent member of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Alberto Anaya Gutierrez, Secretary General of the Mexican Labour Party and representatives from the two countries’ ministries and agencies attended the event.
The bronze statue capturing the late President’s image showing him working in a flower garden of the Presidential Palace was made by Mexican sculptor Pedro Ramirez Ponzanell, who also sculpted a life-size statue of President Ho Chi Minh for the History Centre of Mexico City in 2009.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Mexican Labour Party Chief said that the gift expressed the affection of the Mexican people for the beloved Vietnamese President who was a hero and an international soldier who had made great contributions to the communist and labour movements.
One hundred years ago, President Ho Chi Minh left the nation to seek ways for national salvation which were forever embedded as the motivational force behind the country’s present development.
Earlier, Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam met with the Mexican Senator Alberto Anaya Gutierrez. At the meeting, Mr. Gutierrez applauded Vietnam’s achievements during the past 25 years of national renewal.
He also congratulated Vietnam on the success of the 11th Party Congress, saying it signalled a new era of national reconstruction, defence build up, industrialisation and modernisation. It also focused on implementation of their goal for a strong country of rich people and an equal, democratic and civilised society.
General Secretary Trong thanked the Labor Party of Mexico and Alberto Anaya Gutierrez in particular for their friendship and solidarity towards the Party as well as for the statue of Uncle Ho. The people of Vietnam were grateful for the gift on the occasion of Ho Chi Minh’s 121st birth anniversary (May 19) and the 100th anniversary of the day he left for foreign lands to seek salvation for his country.
