According to local residents, after heavy rains and strong winds lashed Bac Tra My and Nam Tra My Districts on the afternoon of March 29, consecutive mild quakes were felt in the evening and early morning the following day.

The strongest was felt at 11.41pm on March 29, lasting eight seconds and accompanied with a loud explosion. Quake observation stations in the area measured the quake at 1.7 on the Richter scale.

At the time the quakes occurred, the hydropower plant reservoir had low water levels, because of the current long lasting drought.

According to local residents, these quakes usually reoccur soon after the rains. Earlier, Bac Tra My District experienced a series of consecutive quakes after rains on March 4-5.
