Military jumps into environment detoxification after vacuum flask company blaze

Deputy Head of the Military Chemistry Institute Senior lieutenant-colonel Dau Xuan Hoai said institute staffs have taken samples of soil, mud, ashes from the Rang Dong Light Source & Vacuum Flask, whose factory was engulfed in an inferno at the end of August, for testing.

After having the test results , the Command of Chemistry will come up with a solution to detoxify the mercury hazard for people’s safety.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment has asked Rang Dong Company to implement measures to detox the environment after the blaze.
The company must monitor underground water within a 500-meter radius of the fire especially focus on Ha Dinh water supply plant. Once discovering mercury concentration and heavy metal in water exceeding the national reference dose, the company must issue warning to residents.
Rang Dong Company has applied measures to prevent waste water discharge into the city’s box culvert as well as install water sprinkler system to reduce hazards of foul odor.
The health authority in Hanoi continued providing medical checkup to residents living around the company’s premises.
Many locals around the company sent their document to Thanh Xuan District People’s Committee and Rang Dong leaders urging to assess environment pollution and publicize as well as compensation for people.
