Mong Duong 1 thermal power plant starts commercial generation

The largest power company in Vietnam--Vietnam Electricity yesterday hosted a ceremony to mark officially commercial generation of Mong Duong 1 thermal power plant with the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.
Mr. Hai said the event had a practical significance to welcome the 12th Central Party Congress.
The plant’s commercial generation greatly contributes to the national grid as the weather has been disadvantageous for operation of hydropower plants in the central region and the Central Highlands, he added.
The Deputy Prime Minister asked investor to solve issues during the plant’s operation to ensure continuous generation and pay attention to environmental hygiene works.
Mong Duong 1 is one out of two plants of the Mong Duong Power Center under the national electricity development plan for the phase of 2006-2015.
The plant with two heat-engines has a total design capacity of 1,080MW and electricity output of 6.5 billion kWh a year.
