Month for the Poor launched in Hanoi

A ceremony launching “The Month for the Poor” was held in Hanoi yesterday by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFF).

At the ceremony, VFF Central Committee President Nguyen Thien Nhan stressed that over the past 14 years the campaign “The Month for the Poor” had been actively responded to by ministries, enterprises, organizations and individuals inside and outside of the country.

The contribution of the whole community not only helps the poor to escape from poverty but also fosters national unity, said Mr. Nhan.

He called on businesspersons, charity activists in the country and in abroad to continue making practical contributions to help the poor in disadvantaged areas.

At the ceremony, around VND3.5 billion (US$ 164,990) was collected from enterprises and individuals.
