Cao Duc Phat, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, has sent an urgent dispatch to people’s committees of the northern and central provinces asking them to implement effective measures to help farmers protect cattle from the extreme chilly weather forecast during the coming Tet Lunar New Year.

Cao Duc Phat, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development has instructed provincial authorities to help farmers keep their cattle warm during impending cold weather

The minister has also asked provincial authorities to instruct relevant departments to send officials to guide farmers in ways to prevent their cattle from dying or starving to death, in biting cold weather.

Officials will guide farmers to stockpile cattle feed and keep their cattle warm during the impending cold during the coming Tet Lunar New Year.

Both local authorities and residents are being asked to keep an eye on the weather bulletin. If temperatures fall below 12 degrees Celsius, all buffaloes and cows must be driven into shelters immediately, instead of being allowed to graze on the mountains.

The Department of Livestock Production reported that the number of dead cattle so far from cold weather conditions has risen to 198. The worst hit provinces are Yen Bai, Bac Kan and Son La.

Mu Cang Chai District in Yen Bai Province has suffered the most with 61 dead cattle, followed by Van Chan District with 14 so far.
