ODA workers given incentives to work in Vietnam

Foreign experts engaged in ODA projects will be given incentives to work in Vietnam, under a new decision issued by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

Through Decision No. 119/2009/QD-TTg dated October 1, foreign experts and their relatives are allowed to bring foreign currency into Vietnam and to exchange their income from working for ODA projects, as well as their other legitimate income, into foreign currency and take it out of Vietnam.

They are also exempt from personal income tax while working on ODA projects.

Other incentives include easier applications for visas, residence and vehicle registration, application for driver’s license and changing driver’s license, among others.

The decision will take effect from November 20, 2009 and replace Decision 211/1998/QD-TTg dated October 31, 1998 by the Prime Minister.
