Over 12 tons of mercury waste collected from Rang Dong fire

More than 100 officers, soldiers and civilian personnel yesterday made their efforts in the detoxification and handling of environmental pollution after the fire in a store of bulb lights of Rang Dong company.

The functional forces have collected 12 tons of mercury-contaminated waste on an area of about 300 square meters; sprayed over 3.7 tons of chemicals against mercury dispersant outside the 2,500 square-meter environment; urgently cleaned up the scene; carried out site clearance and protected regional security.

The Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company has planned to deploy dredging works, collection and mud suction with modern equipment at the drainage systems around the Rang Dong Company from September 14 to September 20.

Vacuum trucks containing sludge will be sealed for treatment according to the guidance of the Chemical Army and Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

Earlier, the Hanoi Department of Health said that more than 1,700 pupils and 77 teachers of Ha Dinh Primary School, Ha Dinh Secondary School and Anh Sao Kindergarten were sent to health centers to closely monitor and test their health situation.
