Overseas Vietnamese Build Bridges in South-Western Provinces

Children in Dong Thap province stand by a new bridge constructed by the VK Group.

A group of eleven overseas Vietnamese and nationals on Sunday inaugurated five concrete bridges and a road it had built in Cao Lanh, a town in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap.

Established in 2004 by engineer Nguyen Van Cong, the VK (for "Viet Kieu") Group is made up of charity-minded residents of Canada, the US, France, Japan, Australia and Viet Nam.

To date, they have built and commissioned 22 bridges in the country’s south-western provinces, and should finish three more in An Giang province in December.

Now they are planning to build 30 more bridges to replace dilapidated foot crossings.
