Secretary General of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Nong Duc Manh and his entourage arrived in Beijing today, beginning their five-day visit to China at the invitation of Secretary General of the Communist Party of China and President of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao.
Mr. Nong Duc Manh was greeted at the Beijing International Airport by Mr. Wang Jiarui, head of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee and many other senior Chinese officials.
Viet Nam’s Party Chief is scheduled to have talks with Mr. Hu Jintao and other Chinese leaders in Beijing before visiting Liaoning and Guangxi.
Mr. Wang Jiarui said the visit by the Vietnamese party leader will “allow for important strategic dialogue between the two countries to deepen friendship and promote co-operation”, reported by Viet Nam News.
The two countries’ leaders recently agreed on measures to bolster bilateral trade turnover to US$10 billion a year by 2010. This year’s figure is estimated to have already topped US$5 billion as China is one of Viet Nam’s top trading partners.
This week’s visit, the first official foreign trip by Mr. Manh since his re-election, is indicative of the importance Viet Nam places on its relationship with China.
