Party General Secretary tours Gia Lai province

Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong has told Gia Lai to pay due attention to the management and utilization of land and forest resources, the building of a transparent and healthy political system, particularly at the grassroots level, and caring for people’s life by narrowing the rich and poor gap.

The Party General Secretary and National Assembly Chairman made the request at a working session with the provincial authorities on April 15 and 16 during his current tour to the Central Highlands.

He stressed that in the current circumstance, it is necessary to prioritize inflation control, macro-economic stabilization and the settlement of immediate issues.

Party General Secretary Trong commended the provincial Party Committee, authorities and people on the effective implementation of the Party and State policies.

Despite being affected by inflation, droughts and cattle diseases in the first quarter of 2011, Gia Lai attained an economic growth rate of more than 12 percent and contributed VND817 billion  to the State budget.

Mr. Trong, who is also Chairman of the Central Election Council noted the province has made thorough preparations for the election of 13th NA and People's Council at all levels for the 2011-16 term.

He reminded Gia Lai to ensure the appropriate proportion of women and ethnic minority candidates on the basis of set standards and capability requirements.
