On occasion of Tet Lunar New Year, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong accompanied by Hanoi Party Committee Secretary Pham Quang Nghi and Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao visited residents in Dong Anh and Phu Xuyen Districts of Hanoi yesterday, Jan 20.
Speaking to key Government and Party officials, as well as residents in the two districts, General Secretary Trong expressed his delight at the socio-economic achievements in the districts and welcomed the improvements made in living standards of the people there.
The Party General Secretary highlighted the success of the 11th Party Congress, which adopted the five-year plan for 2011-2015 and the socio-economic development strategy for 2011-2020, as well as the elections of the 13th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the period 2011-2016.
In context of the global financial crisis and economic recession, the country has made great efforts to control inflation, stabilize macro economy and ensure social welfare, he said.
He hoped the people of both districts would continue to effectively implement measures to raise their socio-economic status.

General Secretary Trong visited and extended his best wishes for the New Year, the year of the Dragon, to Most Venerable Thich Pho Tue in Vien Quang Buddhist Pagoda as well as visited and presented gifts to Christian Vicar, Dao Van Duc in Phu Xuyen District.
On the same day State President Truong Tan Sang offered incense to the late President Ho Chi Minh at House No. 67 in the President Ho Chi Minh relic site in the Presidential Palace complex in Hanoi, on occasion of traditional Tet New Year.
House No. 67 is the place where President Ho Chi Minh passed away 42 years ago.
On behalf of Party and State leaders, President Sang praised officials and staff of the site for fulfilling the task of preserving objects, together with introducing President Ho’s life and works to local people and international friends.
On the same day, President Truong Tan Sang visited and offered his wishes to residents and Party members of Hai Phong.
President Sang expressed his delight at the city's socio-economic development this past year, garnering an impressive economic growth of 11 per cent in 2011 and attracting foreign investments of more than US$946 million. The city has also made progress in ensuring social protection, and gaining impressive achievements in other areas such as education, culture and sports.
The President stressed that 2012 would present the country with many challenges, thus Hai Phong must stay focused in order to fulfill its targets and closely follow the direction as stated in the Party Congress XI, particularly the resolutions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party Plenum 3 and 4.
The President also visited the Naval High Command Base and applauded the naval forces' resolve in national defense and maintaining a peaceful environment. President Sang said through activities to raise public awareness of sea and island sovereignty, relations between the public and the naval forces have been tightened and the Vietnamese Navy’s prestige in regional forums has been heightened.
He called on the forces to increase training, boost external affairs in national defense and raise their responsibility in protecting sea and island sovereignty.
The National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung yesterday visited the staff at the NA office and thanked their efforts to make the general elections and recent NA sessions successful, while also offering his sincere Tet wishes.
