Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee yesterday organized a meeting with 300 revolutionary devoting families, marking the 40th anniversary of the liberation of the southern region and national reunification.

The meeting was attended by Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Le Thanh Hai, Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Huynh Van Ty, Deputy Standing Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Vo Van Thuong, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan, Deputy Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairwoman of HCMC People’s Council Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, Chairwoman of HCMC Fatherland Front Committee Vo Thi Dung and leaders of departments, organizations and veterans.
On behalf of Party, State at the meeting, Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Le Thanh Hai appreciated great contributions of over 300 martyrs' families.
The General Offensive and Uprising of Spring 1975, which culminated in the success of the historic Ho Chi Minh Operation, not only ended 21 years of war against the United States but also became a great victory in the struggle for independence and freedom of the country under the leading of Communist Party of Vietnam and State President Ho Chi Minh, stressed Secretary Le Thanh Hai.
People of Saigon, Cho Lon, Gia Dinh and Ho Chi Minh City had spent a period of historic resilient revolutionary struggle to get success of liberation of southern region, as well as build and protect the country.
There are so many war invalids and martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for independence and freedom of the country. Through preferential policies and gratitude movement, HCMC Party, authorities and young general always expressed their gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh, the Party as well as great contributions of Vietnamese heroic mothers, soldiers, martyrs and people of Saigon, Cho Lon, Gia Dinh and Ho Chi Minh City for national independence, sovereignty.
According to statistics of Department of HCMC Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, there were 48,579 martyrs, 3,922 Vietnamese heroic mothers, 658 revolutionary veterans, 25, 699 war invalids, 4, 978 Agent Orange victims in Ho Chi Minh City since the southern region's Liberation Day.
Until now, city authorities built around 19, 755 gratitude houses with total costing at VND 222 bilion; repaired nearly 11, 000 houses with VND 54 billion; and collected over 27, 000 martyrs' remains.
To commemorate revolutionary martyrs’ sacrifice, seven martyr cemeteries, 13 martyr monuments and 69 gravestones were built in Ho Chi Minh City.
