According to a document the PM sent to the ministry, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai People’s Committees, the airport capacity will be 100 million passengers and five million tons of cargo per year by 2030.
In the first phase by 2025, an international transit airport will be formed with a capacity of 25 million passenger and 1.2 million ton cargo per year.
Long Thanh Airport will reduce pressure on Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
Over 5,000 hectares will be cleared for construction of the project in Long Thanh District, Dong Nai Province. Total investment capital is estimated at US$7.83 billion.
The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Transport to report the project to the National Assembly in the October session.
