PM greets women on International Women’s Day

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc greeted the women folk in the country on the occasion of International Women’s Day highly appreciating initiative of Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) to choose its activities’ theme named “The Safety Year for Women and Children” on February 6.

He made the statement while participating the teleconference of the launch of “The Safety Year for Women and Children” by the Vietnam Women’s Union today in Hanoi’s Ly Thai To statue and Nguyen Hue walking street in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the 1,979th anniversary of the uprising against Chinese invaders led by national heroines Hai Ba Trung, also known as the two Trung sisters and 109th International Women Day.
Speaking at the event, PM Phuc said that women and children keep important position in any nation. Women are the key to sustainable development and quality of life in the family and children are the future of a family, a country, and a race.
When living, President Ho Chi Minh took heed of women and children. In the fight against the US troops, to promote the role and undaunted spirit of Vietnamese women who sacrificed their lives for national independence and freedom he awarded golden words of “heroism, undauntedness, loyalty and responsibilities.
He also stressed to build socialism successfully, women must be freed and respected. For children right, he emphasized that if children are educated well, the nation is able to gain freedom and rely on its own strength.
PM Phuc noted that having followed President Ho Chi Minh’s teaching and philosophy for years, the Party and the government have had polices to guarantee its people’s rights including children and women. Vietnam ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child on February 20, 1990, becoming the first in Asia and the second in the world to approve the convention fully.
Also in 1990, Vietnam voted a women for Chairwoman of the National Assembly and three female members of the Politburo. The field of business, the rate of Vietnamese female leaders in companies is highest in the Southeast Asia; many of them are managing top enterprises affirming their position and prestige in the world.
He lauded the VWU’s theme of its activities manifesting its determination and responsibility in joining hand with the government in ensuring women’s, children’s and the society’s safety.
He pointed out the country’s sustainability is dependent on three pillars namely economy, society, environment and continuous improvement of people’s spiritual and material lives so that no one will be left behind.
Therefore, he emphasized, during the country development, the government has not only paid attention to economic growth but also to growth quality as well as promote social progress and equality for ensuring people’s right and security especially women and children in disadvantaged districts, border crossings, islands and in areas where most ethnic minority people live.
Last but not least, Mr. Phuc added that the Party and the government are very concerning themselves in social problems which have made harm on women and children. As the government leader, he feels sad at recent traffic accident, violence and physical abuse on the two special folks. Unsafe food has made detrimental impact on our race. Worse, woman and children trafficking has developed complicatedly, the PM said.
On the occasion, he and representatives at the even sent phone message program to support women in the border crossings which was launched by the Women Vietnam Women’s Union and the Red Cross Societies with the aim to mobilize sources to help women in the special areas.
