The Ministry of Public Security and the Government Office have proposed the establishment of a police investigation bureau against corruption.
The proposal is part of the draft amendments for the ordinance issued in 2004 on criminal investigation, which the ministry and the Government Office publicized Tuesday in Ha Noi. The Government will discuss the draft in late September before submitting it to the National Assembly Standing Committee for approval.
The draft says the new investigation bureau will be a new arm of the Ministry of Public Security to enforce the Anti-corruption Law, taking effect on July 1, 2006. Besides, police departments in big cities like Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City might set up their investigation divisions to deal with corruption cases.
If the investigation bureau on corruption is set up, the current Police Investigation Bureau on Economic Management and Positions will be renamed as the Police Investigation Bureau on Economic Crime; and the Office of the Police Investigation Agency, the Ministry of Public Security, will be renamed as the Police Investigation Advisory Bureau.
