The directorate and police investigators decided to carry out probe of the Ho Chi Minh-Long Thanh – Dau Giay toll booth in the southern province of Dong Nai following the robbery on February 7 triggering public concerns of a lack of transparency in toll collection.
The two robbers stole away with VND2.2 billion (US$95,100) in cash, which was reportedly the cash collected that morning alone, much higher than previous VEC’s report that the daily revenue reached no more than VND1 billion.
The directorate promised to publicize investigation result after investigators have finished checking all activities and comparing all results of vehicle data and revenue.
Beforehand, VEC had explanation that the sum of VND2.2 billion was collection of many days not one morning alone like media published.
